The determination of the parameters of fragmenting meteoroids

چکیده
Taking into account the quasi-continuous fragmentation of meteor particles, the formulae describing the variation of both light and ionization along the atmospheric trajectory of meteoroids, are derived. Two methods of data processing are presented enabling the determination of the parameters of quasicontinuous fragmentation,R0, andR1, characterizing the parent body and the fragmentation products, as well as the bulk density of the parent meteoroid from the light and/or ionization curve. The use of these methods is shown by means of two examples of processing of model curves.

Dynamical behavior of meteoroids in the atmosphere derived from very precise photographic records
Basic equations of motion and ablation of a single non-fragmenting body through the atmosphere were solved with ablation and shape-density coefficients as general functions of time. This solution was applied to 22 photographically recorded meteoroids with very precise data available, such meteoroids which did not yield solutions by using the gross-fragmentation model. Extremely high values of t...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling for Strength Estimation of Fragmenting
Introduction: It has been estimated that the total number of meteoroids entering the Earth's atmosphere with masses above 1 kg is about 37000 per year [1]. And approximately 4400 events with mass more than 1 kg strike the Earth every year [1]. Among these im-pactors, those in the mass range ~10 4-3.10 6 kg fragment and form crater fields, with the largest crater resulting from impact of the lar...
متن کامل3d/biela and the Andromedids: Fragmenting versus Sublimating Comets
Comet 3D/Biela broke up in 1842/1843 and continued to disintegrate in the returns of 1846 and 1852. When meteor stormswere observed inNovember of 1872 and 1885, it was surmised that those showers were the debris from that breakup. This could have come from one of two sources: (1) the initial separation of fragments near aphelion or (2) the continued disintegration of the fragments afterward. Al...
متن کاملThe velocity of meteoroids: a historical review
Determining the velocity of meteoroids as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere is very important since the value is fundamental in calculating the orbit of the meteoroid and hence eventually its origin. We describe early attempts at this determination and highlight problems that exist today.
